About Dr. Murphy
Personal Statement - Miles Murphy, MD
When people ask me what I do for a living, there’s a short answer and a long one. The short answer is, “I’m a doctor.” The long answer is, “ I’m an Ob/Gyn who specializes in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery, also known as Urogynecology.” When they inevitably look at me quizzically, I add that, “I mostly take care of women who suffer from urinary incontinence and/or lack of support of their pelvic organs.” Many are surprised that such a field exists, let alone that millions of women in our country suffer from these problems. People are unaware of the magnitude of this problem, because it’s not a subject that people like to talk about. It can be embarrassing and many women (and even some doctors) don’t know that there are effective treatments for these problems.
I chose to work in this field because it is one of the most rewarding areas I encountered in all of my medical training. Women’s lives can be changed by treatments that vary from physical therapy to newly developed medicines and from relatively simple behavioral changes to complex, minimally-invasive surgeries. Each patient I see brings their own unique set of circumstances, concerns, and expectations to their first visit; and I enjoy talking with them to figure out a plan of treatment that will make their life better for them.
Like most people, when I’m not working, I like to spend time with my family. My wife, Audrey, and I have two young daughters. Madeline is five years old and her little sister Ava is three. (Also, like everyone else in our practice, it seems, we too have a yellow Lab.) My wife and I both grew up in southeastern Pennsylvania and our families still live in the area.Download CV in Word Format
