Quality of Life and Surgical Satisfaction
July 19, 2008
Following the outcomes of a research study of 99 women who underwent pelvic reconstruction with transvaginal mesh, women, Drs. Murphy and Lucente along with women’s health research Robin Haff, BSN, (St. Luke’s Hospital), were published in the American Journal of OB and GYN 2008.The objective of the study was to assess the impact of the surgery on quality of life and sexual function in patients.
The conclusions were that quality of life and sexual function are significantly improved overall in patients undergoing pelvic reconstruction with placement of transvaginal mesh. Another key finding was that while surgical success is often defined by anatomical outcome by many surgeons, the patient’s quality of life and surgical satisfaction is at least of equal or greater importance.
