Dr. Lucente Travels to Europe to teach New Technology
November 18, 2008
Dr. Lucente traveled to Europe this month as the only American physician and the surgical instructor for the product launch of the latest development in a single incision “mini-sling” for Stress Urinary Incontinence. The sling manufactured by BARD, uses innovative new technology for the delivery of mesh material for the treatment of female incontinence.
The four –day trip started in Mainz, Germany then on to Bad Langensalza and Suhl, both in Germany. Dr. Lucente’s travels continued to Mannedorf, Siwtzerland and ended in Paris, France. Five European physician colleagues were a part of the team performing the surgery for the first time under Dr. Lucente’s guidance. In total nineteen surgeries were completed during the trip.
“Though the trip was exhausting it was very gratifying to be a part of the launch and see how far we have come in the uses of slings for SUI, “ stated Dr. Lucente.
Dr Lucente was instrumental in both teaching the surgery and providing feedback to the Europeans because of his extensive surgical experience in urogynecology. The Institute will be the principal investigator in the United States as the new technology is evaluated prior to release.
“It will be very exciting to be able to offer women in the greater Lehigh Valley and Philadelphia region this new technology,” comments Dr. Lucente.
