IFPM Celebrates 5TH Anniversary

February 16, 2007

From the Founder Vincent Lucente, MD, MBA

Commitment… a word that is at the core of how I choose to live my life.

Over 19 years ago I made a commitment to practice urogynecology. Why urogynecology? Although granted, what my medical colleagues do in lowering someone's blood pressure or normalizing their blood sugar is important, it does not make the same impact as restoring someone's bladder control or correcting their pelvic support. I have treated thousands of women, restoring their pelvic health and their quality of life. I am most gratified when I see the smiling face of a patient who no longer needs to wear an absorbent pad or worry about wetness or odors.

I also made the commitment stay in the forefront of female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery, a field that is rapidly advancing. I feel I have successfully accomplished this, being the first surgeon in the USA to perform four of the new minimally invasive procedures for both female incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse in the past few years. I remain active in clinical research.

Five years ago I made a commitment to stay in the Lehigh Valley and develop a center of excellence for urogynecology, and so I founded the Institute for Female Pelvic Medicine & Reconstructive Surgery in February 2002. Today, only five short years later we have grown by leaps and bounds, adding my partner, Miles Murphy, MD, an associate, Heather vanRaalte, MD and starting a three year fellowship to train future urogynecologists.

The Institute operates out of three locations in the greater Lehigh Valley and Philadelphia areas. We have an affiliate site in Reading, PA. I continue to have great excitement about the future, for not only the Institute, but for the entire field of female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery.

My pledge to all of my patients is continued commitment.
