Your Surgery

At the Institute we do everything possible to make your surgery experience as comfortable and as easy as possible. The following quick points will help us make that a reality.

Your hospital stay

Most of our patients have outpatient surgery or a brief one-or two-day hospitalization. We encourage you to return to your home environment as soon as possible. It is there that you will sleep and eat better, which is important to your recovery. The hospitals are teaching centers and, therefore, resident physicians will be involved in your hospital care, always under your doctor’s direct supervision. We ask that you be receptive to their participation in your care.

After surgery

A nurse will call you 2 to 3 days after your surgery to check on you. At that time, you should schedule an office appointment approximately two weeks from your date of surgery.

You will also need a check up at six to eight weeks post-operatively, which you can schedule at the two-week visit. Our doctors will determine if any subsequent visits are necessary.

The night before surgery

DO NOT EAT OR DRINK ANYTHING, EVEN WATER, AFTER MIDNIGHT. You may brush your teeth, but be careful not to swallow any water.

The day of surgery

An anesthesiologist will meet with you in the hospital or surgery center on the day of your surgery.

St. Luke’s Hospital will call you the day before surgery to inform you what time to report to the hospital. Please use the St. Cloud Street entrance.
